Cupcake Girl

Cupcake Girl was an experimental strip mixing photography and drawing: scenes were photographed with the collaboration of “model” Carol Jabbour, who played the title character, against a white infinite background, then cut out and pasted into the strips. The drawings, with deliberately simple linework and bold colors to contrast with the photos, were made directly in Photoshop by Lucio Luiz, who also took the photographs.

Originally published on Facebook, the strip ran for 6 episodes in 2014. A longer run had been planned, with several photos already shot, but putting together each strip took a lot of time, and keeping a regular schedule wasn’t possible at the time.
