MorsaMan is an anthropomorphic walrus living in a world of humans, created by Lucio Luiz (script) and Flavio Soares (art) in 2009 as the “mascot” of the Papo de Gordo website and podcast. Despite what the name might suggest, MorsaMan is nothing like an adventurer: he’s just an overweight guy like so many others, trying to survive binge-eating, tight clothes, and the dreaded gym.
The stories follow the podcast’s philosophy, treating the difficulties faced by overweight people today with irony and good humor, aiming to help boost the self-esteem of those who are “overweight”: after all, laughing at yourself is one of the best ways to accept yourself.
The character debuted in the eponymous webcomic, published weekly between 2009 and 2010, and had his strips collected (along with unpublished stories) in the book As Aventuras do MorsaMan, released in 2023 by Jupati Books.
