Hyperfan: cinco anos de fanfic gathers original short stories by fourteen authors to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Hyperfan, one of Brazil’s leading fanfic websites in the early 2000s. Edited by Lucio Luiz, Eduardo Sales Filho and Rafael Monteiro, the book grew out of a challenge: honor the community without publishing fanfics based on third-party characters. The solution was to create an entirely new fictional universe, named Novo Universo Hyperfan (NUH), in which ordinary people gain superpowers through a mysterious phenomenon, while keeping the collaborative “fanfic spirit” among the authors.
Illustrated by JJ Marreiro and running 130 pages, the book is considered Brazil’s first fiction book dedicated to the superhero genre. Lucio Luiz contributed the story “Super tia,” about a preschool teacher who gains mind-control powers over her students, with tragicomic results. Released on April 10, 2006, it is available as a free PDF on the Hyperfan website.
